CNN reported that ‘TV has lowest-rated week ever’, it is not at all surprising to many of us in the world where we have innumerable other sources of information and entertainment. Coming back to the issue, this was the least-watched week in the history for the four broadcast giants in the United States.
The giant broadcasters, CBS, ABC, NBC and Fox, touched a new low with just 20.8 million viewers during the prime time hours. The previous low was recorded in last July having 21.5 million viewers during prime time hours.
As mentioned above, we are experiencing a revolution in the information distribution system. Now, viewers are increasingly becoming pinpointed in their preferences of information, meaning to say, one cannot make them watch and digested anything being served to them.
This pattern, coupled with the quest of specific information led the other sources of information such as Internet and blogs to develop furiously.
However, Associated Press has extended the reason behind the latest slump, which holds that many people are indulged in outdoor activities that resulted in the squeezed viewership. Again, for many, this argument hold no credentials as people at present are not dependent only on TV for the information and entertainment.
However, ruling out TV completely as an effective instrument will be a little harsh this time around. If we speak of specific preferences, there are moments when TV is most effective than any other form of communication.
Three cheers for the information revolution!
